What is included

  • Damaged cylinder or mortice replaced, or an emergency lock fitted
  • Frame keeps and strike plates refixed into sound timber
  • One window or door panel boarded until the glazier comes
  • Dated photos and a written report for your insurer
  • A follow-up visit quoted in writing if the door needs more

A break-in leaves two problems: a door that will not lock tonight, and an insurance claim that needs evidence. We deal with both on the same visit.

Making it secure tonight

We replace the damaged lock or fit an emergency one, refix the keeps if the frame has split, and board a broken panel or window. You get a door that locks with a key you hold, the same night.

The paperwork

Before we touch anything we photograph the damage with the time and date, and we email you a short written report: what was forced, how, and what we replaced. Insurers ask for exactly this, and it is far easier to produce on the night than three days later.

When the door needs more

Sometimes a frame is split end to end or a uPVC gearbox has been wrecked. We make it safe first, then quote the proper repair in writing so you can send it to the insurer before any work goes ahead.

“Our back door had been forced while we were away. He made it secure, boarded the glass and emailed photos for the insurer before he left. The claim went through on those.”

Questions about break-in repair

Should I call the police first?

Yes, and get a crime reference number. Then ring us. We can be on the way while you wait, and we will not disturb anything the police want to see.

Will my insurer pay for this?

Most home policies cover emergency repairs after a break-in. We give you an itemised invoice and the photo report the same night, which is what the claims team will ask for.

Can you come back and fit a proper lock later?

Yes. The emergency lock is a full working lock, not a stopgap, but if the door needs a new frame or a matching set of locks we quote that separately in writing.
